The Registered Nurse, under the direction of the Nurse Manager, utilizes knowledge and skills to provide direct age-specific and culturallly appropriate care through the use of the nursing process based on knowledge of principles of growth and development, serves as a clinical resource, participates in patient and staff education, demonstrates leadership, and serves as a preceptor.
5 West is a 19-bed autonomous unit located on the 5th floor of the main hospital; 15 of the 19 beds have telemetry capability. The primary population served is those with acute and chronic renal failure and those patients requiring telemetry monitoring. Peritoneal Dialysis is administered at the bedside by RNs with demonstrated competency in this skill. The most common category pf patients on the unit will include acute kidney injury, septicemia_disseminated infections, heart failure, other pneumonia, and pulmonary edema_respiratory failure.
