Nurse Extern - 2023 Nurse Extern Program

Summary:

This position provides the student nurse an opportunity to work under the direction of a Registered Nurse and to gain experience in the areas of nursing profession, nursing processes and nursing practice. This hands-on experience will include educational sessions, job shadow, and assisting in patient care. The Nurse Extern may provide patient care in a Nurse Assistant role as approved by manager.

CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital Beeville is designated by the Texas Department of Health as a Level IV Trauma Center, providing 24 hour emergency and intensive care services for critically ill or injured patients, and stabilizing some 16,500 patients in the ER each year. CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital Beeville is licensed for 69 beds and offers Emergency Services, Intensive Care, Medical Surgical Services, Obstetrics, Surgical Services, Critical Care, and Rehabilitation Services. The hospital has three operating rooms; eight same-day surgery rooms; two endoscopy rooms; an expanded recovery area; new cardiopulmonary service area and an expanded outpatient services wing. Women’s Services includes nine birthing suites and a full service nursery, with access to a level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

Requirements:

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• 4thyear nursing student from an accredited 4 year college or a 3rd& 4thsemester nursing student from a two year accredited college.
• Must be enrolled in an accredited two or four year nursing program.
• Previous experience in patient care through fundamentals classes in the nursing program.
• CPR-(American Heart Association).
