Position Objective:Leads and implements Infection Prevention program in the hospital and physician practices. Requires performance of a variety of activities with varying degrees of complexity, high degree of accuracy, factual dependability and independent thinking, and specialization and concentration in clinical areas. The Infection Prevention Coordinator will conduct rounds across the FMH system, discussing and monitoring infection control with staff; collects infection data from departments, maintaining records for each case; trains staff on implementation of infection control practices; investigates adverse events and incidents of infection and reports such incidents to the Sr. Director of Quality and PI. Patient Population Served:All Patients in the Frisbie Memorial Hospital System (including ambulatory services). Essential Position Functions:Maintains current knowledge of infection control practices. Uses CDC and APIC guidelines and CMS standards to recommend changes in infection control practices and procedures. Reviews infection prevention and control literature and keeps up to date with current research and practices. Serves as a resource and provides guidance to hospital and physician practice staff regarding infection risks, prevention, and control. Conducts systematic surveillance in order to identify healthcare acquired infections. Reviews information received relative to possible HAIs. Regularly reviews microbiology culture reports. Tracks patients with multidrug-resistant organisms (MDROs) and epidemiologically important infections. Works with Information Services and Laboratory to ensure accurate and timely tracking of infection related information. Completes investigations of all significant clusters of infections above the expected level and participates in developing corrective action plans. Reports pertinent information to NH-DHHS as appropriate. Acts as liaison with state health departments in reporting and managing reportable and infectious diseases, and during times of community outbreaks. Responsible for all aspects of hospital infection reporting to National Healthcare Safety Network. Maintains reports and analyzes data regarding medical device-use, surgical procedures, hospital infections, and infection prevention interventions. Participates in developing and conducting education programs for employees relating to infection control for new staff during orientation and for current staff. Coordination and planning of Infection Prevention Committee meetings. Prepares agenda, conducts meetings, and maintains minutes. Acts on recommendations of committee. Analyses HAIs and HAI risks and prepares reports for the Infection Prevention Committee. Works with Employee Health Services to monitor and reduce employee risks, exposures, and illness. Works with Facilities department to ensure proper precautions used to maintain dust control in construction/remodeling. Gives input regarding infection control during planning phases of construction/remodeling. Conducts regular audits of hospital and outpatient facilities' infection prevention measures. Actively promotes and monitors hand hygiene compliance. Inspects environment of care and reviews procedures. Communicates monitoring data to staff and Infection Prevention Committee. Participates in and works with Antibiotic Stewardship Committee to review antibiotic use and practices, and curb unnecessary use of antibiotics to reduce microbial resistance in FMH facilities and community. Generate and distribute facility antibiogram. Position Qualifications:A Registered Nurse, with at least 5 years Hospital experience preferred. 1-2 years of management experience preferred.Masters of Science degree preferred.Certification within first 3 years of employment: Infection Prevention and Control (CIC) or Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology (CBIC).
