GENERAL SUMMARY The IT RN Clinical Informaticist serves as the key point of contact between physicians, clinical staff, and the Information Technology department. Working under the direction of the Clinical Informatics Coordinator, integrates nursing science and information science to manage and determine clinical functions that are suitable for computer application and to ensure the information systems are consistent with professional standards of clinical practice. This role has responsibility for functional leadership and day-to-day operational support of Clinical Information Systems utilized in an acute care hospital patient care area/clinics. Works as a liaison among stakeholders in order to elicit, analyze, communicate, and validate requirements for changes to processes, policies, workflows, and information systems utilizing industry best practices. Ensures data, information, and education is current with regulatory agency and best practice standards. Coordinates the collection and reporting of metrics defining benefits realization associated with the clinical information systems. This position requires close interaction with both clinical and non-clinical staff, physicians, hospital leaders, ancillary departments, and IT co-workers. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS • Provides guidance to the members of the nursing staff. • Provides EMR training, revises curriculum as needed for new hires, students etc. • Provide Physician orientation and training. • Serve as the internal nursing consultant for clinical IT initiatives. • Support in the implementations of Information System initiatives. • Collaborate with users of Clinical Information Systems to identify potential areas for improving Information Systems. • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job. • Designs and suggests improvements to workflows. • Gather information and log tickets in the appropriate ticket and tracking system if an application or system fails to work as designed. • Performs rounding for outcomes interviewing all levels of hospital staff and physicians. MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED • Effective verbal and written communication skills and effective presentation skills. • A bias for action, teamwork, flexibility, creativity, and excellence. • A service mentality that recognizes users as customers. • Experience with desktop, notebook, handheld and server computer hardware. • Expertise in Microsoft Office products. • General knowledge of hospital business processes and their interrelationship. • Ability to analyze and resolve complex issues. • Ability to negotiate and defuse conflict. • Outstanding analytic capabilities. • The ability to prioritize changing demands, multi-task, and creatively meet tight deadlines in addition to being extremely process focused in a fast paced environment is a must. • Know how to open, read, and respond to email • Know how to manage electronic files • Know how to print electronic documents and reports • Ability to remain highly organized • Willing to accept and understand clear directions while paying attention to details. • Must have solid decision making abilities and must meet tight deadlines. • Must be able to strategize and plan both in the long and short term MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED • Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing required • Degree in Informatics is preferred. • Four years acute care experience in a hospital and/or clinic environment with working knowledge of nursing process and hospital operations. • Experience implementing, training, and supporting an automated clinical information system is highly desired. • Working knowledge of Cerner or other EMR desired. • Project Management experience a plus. LICENSURE AND CERTIFICATION • Maintain Registered Nurse License. BSN Preferred • Valid Texas RN License/Eligible Compact License • Must maintain a current BLS certification from American Heart Association.
